Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Who Owns Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Who Owns Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Who Owns Helix Mattress

Construction Who Owns Helix Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Who Owns Helix Mattress

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Who Owns Helix Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Who Owns Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
