Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Who Makes The Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Who Makes The Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Who Makes The Helix Mattress

Construction Who Makes The Helix Mattress

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Who Makes The Helix Mattress

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options sound right, you could always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Who Makes The Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Who Makes The Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
