Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Where Is Helix Made

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Where Is Helix Made

Construction Where Is Helix Made

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Where Is Helix Made

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Where Is Helix Made

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Where Is Helix Made

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
