Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. What Is A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. What Is A Helix Mattress

Construction What Is A Helix Mattress
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). What Is A Helix Mattress
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options sound right, you could always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. What Is A Helix Mattress
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. What Is A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
