Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. What Is A Helix Bed
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. What Is A Helix Bed

Construction What Is A Helix Bed
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). What Is A Helix Bed
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. What Is A Helix Bed
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. What Is A Helix Bed
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
