Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Voila Vs Helix

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Voila Vs Helix

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Voila Vs Helix

Construction Voila Vs Helix

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Voila Vs Helix

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound right, you may always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Voila Vs Helix

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Voila Vs Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
