Construction The Puffy Mattress Reviews

The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It features a straight forward design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamExceptional support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It is made from polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.

Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which means you are very likely to sink in deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds like this to feature a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has managed to mitigate this with a gel infusion meant to keep things nice and cool while you are sleeping.

Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this section has a quick response to pressure and can be quite firm. The combination of materials was especially chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. The Puffy Mattress Reviews

Firmness

We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam coating with a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. A lack of any kind of transition foam implies that you’re very likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you would like an even softer texture, you might want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which comes with an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

Another important aspect to consider when buying a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these tension spots could be, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and shift positions.

Side – Rolling on my side, I felt some pressure relief. I am not too surprised by this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses which offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for people who sleep in their sides.

Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer structures that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is meant to signify a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are really quite intriguing motion transfer outcomes. You’ll notice a slight spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I’d attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your partner’s turning and tossing in the evening.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also measured how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

What this tells me is that you are likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that’ll make it a bit difficult to change positionsThe Puffy Mattress Reviews

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a sound, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The dense base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very strong perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to sense a consistent feel across the whole surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body roughly three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to be aware that you need to take advantage of testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to completely adapt. If for some reason you get to the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will work together with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the assurance that this can be a mattress that the company will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in every material of the mattress. The top layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam which uses convection and conduction to release heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses.

The foundation foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that will not let you sink into the mattress and also keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this enables for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature whilst sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First of all, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam texture, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. The Puffy Mattress Reviews

And finally, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anyone in search of a gentle, soothing structure.

CONS

Though the memory foam is a significant selling point of this mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

Additionally, it contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for those needing buoyant support.

The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone that are looking to receive all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover that can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is soft and pliable and fits nicely to the mattress. It has a rather appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud layout that really adds to the look. The side panels are a dim grey durable fabric that compliment the mattress as well. The Puffy Mattress Reviews

Unlike the traditional foam mattresses, this one is going to remain cool and will cradle you fairly well and will provide decent pressure relief. Puffy is very sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it appropriate for many different types of sleepers. Although, I’d like to say this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers as the thick relaxation layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips. Moreover, the mattress provides proper body support and is a great selection for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. The Puffy Mattress Reviews
