Construction Softwell Mattress

The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It has a simple design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamOutstanding support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It’s made from polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.

Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a slow response to pressure, which usually means you are likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds such as this to feature a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things cool and nice as you sleep.

Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this section has a quick response to pressure and can be quite firm. The combination of materials has been specifically chosen to bring targeted relief to the spine. Softwell Mattress

Firmness

We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam layer with a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. An absence of any sort of transition foam means that you are very likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer texture, you may want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which has an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

Another important factor to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.

To help you visualize where these tension spots could be, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the results on the chart where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Puffy-Mattress-Pressure-Map

BackLying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in a fantastic pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and shift positions.

Side – Rolling on my side, I sensed some pressure relief. I am not too surprised with this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses which provide cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for people who sleep on their sides.

Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is meant to symbolize another movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are really quite interesting motion transfer outcomes. You’ll see a slight spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit tricky to change positionsSoftwell Mattress

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a solid, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The compact base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the whole surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body about 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s good to be aware that you should take advantage of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you get a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to completely adapt. If for any reason you get to the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will easily work together with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress has a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the typical warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing errors. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the assurance that this can be a mattress that the company is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in every material of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to release heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that increases the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.

The foundation foam is compact and supportive to make a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress and keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All this allows for your mattress to maintain an perfect temperature while sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First of all, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam feel, so can be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Softwell Mattress

And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anybody in search of a gentle, calming structure.

CONS

Though the memory foam is a big selling point of this mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for people in need of buoyant support.

Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Softwell Mattress

The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone that are looking to get all the benefits of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover which can be unzipped and washed when needed. The top is soft and pliable and fits well to the mattress. It even has a rather appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud layout that actually adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dark gray durable cloth that compliment the mattress too. Softwell Mattress

Unlike the traditional foam mattresses, this one will remain cool and will cradle you fairly well and will provide decent pressure relief. Puffy is extremely sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it appropriate for all different kinds of sleepers. Although, I’d like to say this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers because the thick relaxation layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips. In addition, the mattress provides proper body support and is a great selection for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Softwell Mattress
