Keep on reading below for my complete review of the Puffy mattress.
Construction Softside Waterbed Mattress
The Puffy is basically a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It has a simple design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It is made from polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.
Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a slow response to pressure, which usually means you are likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds like this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is incredibly thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. And though memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has been able to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things cool and nice as you sleep.
Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this section has a quick response to pressure and can be very firm. The combination of materials has been specifically chosen to bring targeted relief to the spine. Softside Waterbed Mattress
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam coating having a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. An absence of any sort of transition foam implies that you are likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you may want to check out the Puffy Lux, which comes with an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
Another important aspect to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and change positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I felt a few pressure relief. I am not too surprised with this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses which offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who generally opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.
Now, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize another movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are really quite intriguing motion transfer results. You’ll notice a small spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, making it so you’re unlikely to be too bothered by your partner’s tossing and turning in the night.
While purchasing a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
What this tells me is that you are very likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit difficult to change positions. Softside Waterbed Mattress
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel stable and create a sound, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The compact base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the entire surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. So far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body roughly 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is good to be aware that you should take advantage of testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a new mattress your body needs a few weeks to even months to fully adjust. If for some reason you get to the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will work with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty shows that Puffy actually backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing errors. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the assurance that this is a mattress that the company is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in each material of this mattress. The top layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses conduction and convection to release heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses.
The base foam is compact and supportive to create a solid base that will not allow you to sink into the mattress and keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All this allows for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature whilst sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First and foremost, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a traditional memory foam feel, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Softside Waterbed Mattress
And finally, this is one soft mattress, therefore can do wonders for anybody in search of a gentle, soothing structure.
While the memory foam is a significant selling point of the mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that does not have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for people needing buoyant support.
Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Softside Waterbed Mattress
The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone who are looking to get all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover which can be unzipped and washed when needed. The top is stretchy and soft and fits nicely to the mattress. It has a very appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud layout that really adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dim grey durable fabric that compliment the mattress as well. Unlike the conventional foam mattresses, this one will remain cool and will cradle you fairly well and will give decent pressure relief. Puffy is very sturdy and contains motion isolation which makes it suitable for all different types of sleepers. Although, I’d like to say this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to relieve strain in the shoulders and hips. Moreover, the mattress provides proper body support and is a great selection for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Softside Waterbed Mattress
