Construction Soft Mattresses Reviews

The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It features a straight forward design with just two foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamOutstanding support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It is made from polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.

Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re very likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds such as this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is very thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things cool and nice while you are sleeping.

Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this part has a quick response to pressure and can be very firm. The combination of materials has been especially selected to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Soft Mattresses Reviews

Firmness

We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam coating with a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. A lack of any sort of transition foam implies that you’re likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you might want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which has an extra layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

Another important aspect to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.

To help you visualize where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the chart where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Puffy-Mattress-Pressure-Map

Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in some fantastic pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and shift positions.

Side – Rolling onto my side, I felt a few pressure relief. I’m not overly surprised with this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses that offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for people who sleep on their sides.

Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a huge benefit for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s take a look at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to signify a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are really quite interesting motion transfer outcomes. You’ll notice a small spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I’d attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you are unlikely to be too bothered by your partner’s turning and tossing in the night.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit difficult to change positionsSoft Mattresses Reviews

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a solid, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The dense base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to sense a consistent feel across the entire surface without having a “rolling out of the bed” feel. So far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body about 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to be aware that you need to take advantage of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you get a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to fully adjust. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will easily work with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This guarantee shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the assurance that this is a mattress that the business is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in each material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to release heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that increases the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.

The base foam is compact and supportive to create a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress and also keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All this enables for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature while sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First and foremost, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a traditional memory foam feel, so can be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Soft Mattresses Reviews

And finally, this is one soft mattress, therefore could do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, calming mattress.

CONS

Though the memory foam is a significant selling point of this mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for those needing buoyant support.
