Keep on reading below for my complete review of the Puffy mattress.
Construction Soft Mattress Pad
The Puffy is basically a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It has a straight forward design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.
Soft Mattress Pad
Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which encourages airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.
Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which usually means you are likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds such as this to feature a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is incredibly thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. Although memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things nice and cool as you are sleeping.
Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this part has a quick response to pressure and can be quite firm. The combination of materials was especially chosen to bring targeted relief to the spine. Soft Mattress Pad
We found Puffy’s thick memory foam layer having a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. An absence of any sort of transition foam implies that you are very likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you may want to check out the Puffy Lux, which comes with an extra layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
Another important factor to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the outcomes on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and shift positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I felt some pressure relief. I’m not overly surprised by this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses that offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.
Now, let us take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize another movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are actually quite interesting motion transfer results. You’ll notice a slight spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you are not likely to be too bothered by your partner’s turning and tossing in the evening.
When buying a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit difficult to change positions. Soft Mattress Pad
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a sound, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The dense base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very strong perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to sense a consistent feel across the entire surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress has a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body about 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is good to note that you need to make the most of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to completely adapt. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will work together with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress has a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty indicates that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal flaws or manufacturing errors. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the confidence that this can be a mattress that the business will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in each material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses conduction and convection to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.
The foundation foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that won’t let you sink into the mattress and also keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this enables for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature whilst sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First of all, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam feel, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Soft Mattress Pad
And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, soothing structure.
While the memory foam is a big selling point of the mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
Additionally, it contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for people in need of buoyant support.
Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Soft Mattress Pad
The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone that are looking to receive all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover that can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is stretchy and soft and fits nicely to the mattress. It even has a very appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud pattern that actually adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dim grey durable fabric that compliment the mattress too. Unlike the traditional foam mattresses, this one will stay cool and will cradle you fairly well and will provide decent pressure relief. Puffy is extremely sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it appropriate for many different types of sleepers. Although, I’d like to say this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers because the thick relaxation layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips. In addition, the mattress offers proper body support and is a great selection for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Soft Mattress Pad
