Construction Soft Mattress Hurting Back
The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It has a simple design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It’s made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.
Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a slow response to pressure, which usually means you’re very likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds such as this to feature a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things nice and cool while you sleep.
Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this section has a quick response to pressure and can be very firm. The combination of materials was specifically selected to bring targeted relief to the spine. Soft Mattress Hurting Back
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam coating with a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any kind of transition foam means that you are very likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you would like an even softer texture, you might want to check out the Puffy Lux, which comes with an extra layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
One other important factor to consider when buying a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to some great pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and change positions.
Side – Rolling on my side, I sensed a few pressure relief. I am not too surprised by this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses that provide cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for those who sleep in their sides.
Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer structures that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.
Now, let us take a look at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to signify another movement you’re likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are really quite interesting motion transfer results. You’ll notice a small spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I’d attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, making it so you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also quantified how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit tricky to change positions. Soft Mattress Hurting Back
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and create a sound, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The compact base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the whole surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress has a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body about 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to be aware that you need to make the most of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs a few weeks to months to completely adjust. If for any reason you reach the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will easily work with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the typical warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing errors. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the assurance that this can be a mattress that the business is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in each material of this mattress. The top layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.
The base foam is compact and supportive to create a solid base that will not allow you to sink into the mattress and also help keep you closer to the surface at which less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to aid in keeping cool. All of this allows for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature while sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First and foremost, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam feel, so can be good for anybody with a penchant for the material. Soft Mattress Hurting Back
And finally, this is one soft mattress, therefore can do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, soothing structure.
Though the memory foam is a significant selling point of the mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for those needing buoyant support.
Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Soft Mattress Hurting Back
The Puffy mattress is a great choice for all those who are looking to get all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover which can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is soft and pliable and fits well to the mattress. It even has a rather appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud layout that really adds to the look. The side panels are a dim gray durable fabric that compliment the mattress as well. Unlike the traditional foam mattresses, this one is going to stay cool and will cradle you fairly well and will give good pressure relief. Puffy is extremely sturdy and includes motion isolation that makes it appropriate for many different kinds of sleepers. Although, I’d like to state this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips. Moreover, the mattress offers proper body support and is a fantastic choice for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Soft Mattress Hurting Back
