Construction Soft Mattress Cons

The Puffy is basically a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It features a straight forward design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamOutstanding support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which encourages airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.

Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to sink in deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds such as this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is incredibly thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. And though memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has been able to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things nice and cool while you are sleeping.

Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this section has a quick response to pressure and is quite firm. The combination of materials has been especially chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Soft Mattress Cons

Firmness

We found Puffy’s thick memory foam coating having a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any sort of transition foam implies that you’re very likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you may want to check out the Puffy Lux, which has an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

One other important aspect to consider when buying a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these tension spots could be, I put a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in some fantastic pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and shift positions.

Side – Rolling onto my side, I sensed some pressure relief. I am not too surprised by this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses that offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.

Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who generally opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are actually quite intriguing motion transfer outcomes. You’ll see a small spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your partner’s turning and tossing in the night.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also measured how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit difficult to change positionsSoft Mattress Cons

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel stable and make a sound, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The compact base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very strong perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to sense a consistent feel across the entire surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. So far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body about three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to note that you need to make the most of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you get a new mattress your body needs a few weeks to even months to completely adapt. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will easily work with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress has a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This guarantee indicates that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the confidence that this is a mattress that the business is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in each material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam which uses convection and conduction to release heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.

The foundation foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that will not allow you to sink into the mattress and also help keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All this allows for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First and foremost, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to relieve strain in the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam feel, so can be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Soft Mattress Cons

And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anyone seeking a gentle, soothing structure.

CONS

While the memory foam is a significant selling point of the mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

Additionally, it contributes to a structure that does not have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for those in need of buoyant support.

Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Soft Mattress Cons

The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone that want to receive all the benefits of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover that can be unzipped and washed when needed. The top is stretchy and soft and fits nicely to the mattress. It has a very suitable and aesthetically pleasing cloud pattern that actually adds to the look. The side panels are a dark grey durable cloth that compliment the mattress too. Soft Mattress Cons

Unlike the traditional foam mattresses, this one will remain cool and will cradle you fairly well and will provide good pressure relief. Puffy is very sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it appropriate for all different kinds of sleepers. Although, I’d like to say this mattress is an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick relaxation layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips. In addition, the mattress provides proper body support and is a great choice for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Soft Mattress Cons
