Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Saatva Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Saatva Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Saatva Vs Helix Mattress

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Saatva Vs Helix Mattress

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you could always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Saatva Vs Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Saatva Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
