Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Purple Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Purple Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Purple Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Purple Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Purple Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Purple Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
