Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Purple 3 Vs Helix
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Purple 3 Vs Helix

Construction Purple 3 Vs Helix
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Purple 3 Vs Helix
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Purple 3 Vs Helix
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Purple 3 Vs Helix
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
