Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Construction Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Final Thoughts Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

If you’re searching for a mattress and aren’t quite certain what feel that you require, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz might be the key to finding your very best sleep with little hassle. Their awesome system, which is based on expert sentiment and artificial intelligence, was created to better their client’s sleep by giving a better match. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

The attributes of the Helix were thoughtfully constructed to deliver choices whether you were looking for a mattress that stays cool all night, in the event that you wanted one to cradle your curves with a thick comfort system, or both! The pocketed coil unit should provide amazing edge support and movement transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped construction.

Hopefully, I have given you some idea of what the average sleeper can expect from the Helix, but it truly does provide an impressive range of customization with a choice for literally every particular need or desire. Your next best sleep might just be a brief online quiz away.

Video Review

Keep on reading below for my complete review of the Puffy mattress.

Construction Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It features a straight forward design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Here are the details listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam improves airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamExceptional support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which encourages airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.

Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a slow response to pressure, which usually means you are likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds like this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is incredibly thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things nice and cool while you are sleeping.

Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this section has a quick response to pressure and can be quite firm. The combination of materials was especially chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Firmness

We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam layer with a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any kind of transition foam implies that you’re very likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you may want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which has an extra layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

Another important factor to consider when buying a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Puffy-Mattress-Pressure-Map

Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to some great pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and shift positions.

Side – Rolling on my side, I felt some pressure relief. I’m not overly surprised with this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses which provide cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.

Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a huge benefit for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us take a look at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to another.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize another movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are actually quite interesting motion transfer results. You’ll see a small spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, making it so you are unlikely to be too disturbed by your partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

What this tells me is that you are very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers within this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that’ll make it a bit difficult to change positionsPuffy Mattress Vs Helix

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel stable and create a solid, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The dense base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very strong perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to sense a consistent feel across the entire surface without having a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress has a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body roughly 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is a good idea to note that you should make the most of testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to fully adjust. If for any reason you get to the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will easily work together with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the typical warranty for the mattress industry is. This guarantee shows that Puffy actually backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing errors. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the assurance that this can be a mattress that the company will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in every material of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam which uses conduction and convection to release heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that increases the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses.

The base foam is compact and supportive to create a solid base that will not allow you to sink into the mattress and help keep you closer to the surface at which less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this enables for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature whilst sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First of all, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam texture, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so can do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, soothing structure.

CONS

While the memory foam is a significant selling point of this mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might discover that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

It also contributes to a structure that does not have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for those in need of buoyant support.

Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

The Puffy mattress is a great choice for all those who are looking to receive all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover that can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is soft and pliable and fits well to the mattress. It even has a rather appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud pattern that really adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dark grey durable cloth that compliment the mattress too. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix

Unlike the conventional foam mattresses, this one will remain cool and will cradle you fairly well and will give decent pressure relief. Puffy is very sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it appropriate for all different types of sleepers. Although, I’d like to state this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips. Moreover, the mattress provides proper body support and is a fantastic choice for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Puffy Mattress Vs Helix
