Construction Puffy Mattress Underground
The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It has a straight forward design with just two foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It’s made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.
Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re very likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds like this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things cool and nice as you are sleeping.
Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this section has a quick response to pressure and is very firm. The combination of materials has been specifically chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Puffy Mattress Underground
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam layer with a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. An absence of any kind of transition foam implies that you are very likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you might want to check out the Puffy Lux, which comes with an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
Another important aspect to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and shift positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I felt some pressure relief. I am not overly surprised by this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses that offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a huge benefit for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.
Next up, let us take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress into another.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are really quite interesting motion transfer outcomes. You’ll notice a slight spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I’d attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you’re not likely to be overly bothered by your partner’s turning and tossing in the evening.
While purchasing a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also measured how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
This tells me is that you’re likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers within this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it somewhat difficult to change positions. Puffy Mattress Underground
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel stable and create a sound, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The dense base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very strong perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to feel a consistent feel across the entire surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body about 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to note that you need to make the most of testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a new mattress your body needs several weeks to months to fully adjust. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will work together with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the typical warranty for the mattress business is. This warranty shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal flaws or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the assurance that this can be a mattress that the business is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in each material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.
The foundation foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that will not let you sink into the mattress and also keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to aid in keeping cool. All of this allows for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature whilst sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First and foremost, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a traditional memory foam texture, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Puffy Mattress Underground
And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, calming structure.
While the memory foam is a big selling point of the mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for those in need of buoyant support.
Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Puffy Mattress Underground
The Puffy mattress is a great choice for all those that want to receive all the benefits of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover which can be unzipped and washed when needed. The top is soft and pliable and fits nicely to the mattress. It even has a rather suitable and aesthetically pleasing cloud pattern that actually adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dark gray durable fabric that compliment the mattress too. Unlike the traditional foam mattresses, this one will remain cool and will cradle you fairly well and will give good pressure relief. Puffy is extremely sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it suitable for all different kinds of sleepers. Although, I’d like to state this mattress is an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick relaxation layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips. Moreover, the mattress offers proper body support and is a great choice for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Puffy Mattress Underground
