Construction Puffy Mattress Slow To Inflate

The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It has a straight forward design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamOutstanding support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.

Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to sink in deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds such as this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is incredibly thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. And though memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion meant to keep things nice and cool as you are sleeping.

Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this section has a quick response to pressure and can be very firm. The combination of materials was especially selected to bring targeted relief to the spine. Puffy Mattress Slow To Inflate

Firmness

We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam layer with a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. A lack of any sort of transition foam implies that you’re likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer feel, you may want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which has an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

Another important aspect to consider when buying a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the chart where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

BackLying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to a fantastic pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and change positions.

Side – Rolling on my side, I sensed some pressure relief. I am not overly surprised with this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses which offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for those who sleep in their sides.

Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a huge benefit for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who generally opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress into another.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize another movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are actually quite interesting motion transfer results. You’ll notice a small spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I’d attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, making it so you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also measured how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

What this tells me is that you are very likely to sink deeply through the foam layers within this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that’ll make it somewhat difficult to change positionsPuffy Mattress Slow To Inflate

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and create a sound, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The compact base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to sense a consistent feel across the entire surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body roughly three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is good to be aware that you need to take advantage of testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to months to completely adjust. If for any reason you get to the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will easily work together with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress has a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress business is. This guarantee indicates that Puffy actually backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing errors. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the confidence that this is a mattress that the company will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in each material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses conduction and convection to release heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.

The base foam is compact and supportive to create a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress and help keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All this allows for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature whilst sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First and foremost, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam texture, so can be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Puffy Mattress Slow To Inflate

And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anyone seeking a gentle, soothing mattress.

CONS

While the memory foam is a big selling point of this mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for those needing buoyant support.
