Construction Puffy Mattress Not Expanding In Middle
The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It features a simple design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Exceptional support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It’s made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.
Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re very likely to sink in deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds such as this to feature a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. And though memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has been able to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things nice and cool while you sleep.
Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this section has a quick response to pressure and is very firm. The combination of materials was specifically chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Puffy Mattress Not Expanding In Middle
We found Puffy’s thick memory foam coating having a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. A lack of any kind of transition foam implies that you are very likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you would like an even softer feel, you may want to check out the Puffy Lux, which comes with an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
One other important aspect to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these tension spots could be, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in some fantastic pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and shift positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I sensed a few pressure relief. I am not too surprised by this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses that offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer structures that keep the spine in an even alignment. HereI could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.
Now, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to another.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are really quite interesting motion transfer results. You’ll see a slight spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you are not likely to be too disturbed by your partner’s turning and tossing in the evening.
While buying a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
What this tells me is that you are very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that’ll make it somewhat tricky to change positions. Puffy Mattress Not Expanding In Middle
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and create a solid, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The compact base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the entire surface without having a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body about three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is a good idea to note that you need to take advantage of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to fully adjust. If for any reason you get to the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will work with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress business is. This warranty shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the assurance that this can be a mattress that the business will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in each material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses conduction and convection to release heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that increases the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses.
The foundation foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress and help keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this enables for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First and foremost, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to relieve strain in the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam texture, so could be good for anybody with a penchant for the material. Puffy Mattress Not Expanding In Middle
And lastly, this is one soft mattress, therefore could do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, soothing mattress.
Though the memory foam is a significant selling point of the mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for people needing buoyant support.
Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Puffy Mattress Not Expanding In Middle
The Puffy mattress is a great choice for all those that are looking to receive all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover that can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is stretchy and soft and fits well to the mattress. It even has a rather suitable and aesthetically pleasing cloud layout that really adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dim gray durable fabric that compliment the mattress as well.
