Construction Puffy Mattress Bad

The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It features a straight forward design with just two foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:

10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS

6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort

4″ Cooling Cloud FoamPuffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.

6″ Firm Core Support FoamExceptional support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.

Components:

Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which encourages airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.

Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds like this to feature a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is very thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. And though memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has been able to mitigate this using a gel infusion meant to keep things nice and cool while you are sleeping.

Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this section has a fast response to pressure and is very firm. The combination of materials was especially selected to bring targeted relief to the spine. Puffy Mattress Bad

Firmness

We found Puffy’s thick memory foam layer with a gentle, pressure-relieving texture. An absence of any kind of transition foam implies that you are likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you would like an even softer feel, you may want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which has an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.

Pressure Map

One other important aspect to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these tension spots could be, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the outcomes on the chart where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

BackLying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and change positions.

Side – Rolling onto my side, I sensed a few pressure relief. I am not overly surprised with this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses which offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for people who sleep in their sides.

Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a huge benefit for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s take a look at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress into another.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to signify another movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

Puffy-Motion-Transfer

These are really quite intriguing motion transfer results. You’ll notice a slight spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you are unlikely to be too bothered by your partner’s turning and tossing in the night.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

Puffy-Sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.

What this tells me is that you are likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that’ll make it a bit difficult to change positionsPuffy Mattress Bad

Edge Support

The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel stable and make a solid, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The compact base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to sense a consistent feel across the whole surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. So far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.

101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee

The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body roughly 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to note that you should make the most of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs a few weeks to months to completely adjust. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will easily work with you to return and refund your purchase.

This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty indicates that Puffy actually backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the confidence that this can be a mattress that the company is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?

The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in every material of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.

The foundation foam is compact and supportive to make a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress and also keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this allows for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.

Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?

PROS

First of all, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips.

Also note that the Puffy evokes a traditional memory foam texture, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Puffy Mattress Bad

And finally, this is one soft mattress, therefore could do wonders for anyone seeking a gentle, soothing structure.

CONS

While the memory foam is a big selling point of the mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

Additionally, it contributes to a structure that does not have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for those needing buoyant support.

Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Puffy Mattress Bad

The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone that want to get all the benefits of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover which can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is stretchy and soft and fits nicely to the mattress. It even has a rather appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud pattern that really adds to the appearance. The side panels are a dim gray durable fabric that compliment the mattress too. Puffy Mattress Bad

Unlike the conventional foam mattresses, this one will stay cool and will cradle you fairly well and will provide good pressure relief. Puffy is extremely sturdy and contains motion isolation which makes it suitable for many different kinds of sleepers. Although, I’d like to state this mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to relieve tension at the shoulders and hips. In addition, the mattress provides proper body support and is a great selection for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Puffy Mattress Bad
