Construction Puffy Mattress Back Pain
The Puffy is basically a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It has a simple design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Exceptional support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It’s made from polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.
Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a slow response to pressure, which usually means you’re very likely to sink in deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds like this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is incredibly thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion intended to keep things cool and nice as you sleep.
Support Layer – Composed of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this part has a quick response to pressure and can be quite firm. The combination of materials has been specifically chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Puffy Mattress Back Pain
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam layer having a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any sort of transition foam implies that you’re very likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer texture, you might want to check out the Puffy Lux, which comes with an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
One other important factor to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these tension spots could be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to some fantastic pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and change positions.
Side – Rolling on my side, I felt a few pressure relief. I am not overly surprised with this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses that provide cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer structures that keep the spine in an even alignment. HereI could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.
Next up, let us take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you are most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are actually quite interesting motion transfer outcomes. You’ll notice a small spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is excellent at absorbing and dampening motion, making it so you are not likely to be overly disturbed by your partner’s turning and tossing in the night.
While buying a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
What this tells me is that you’re very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers within this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit tricky to change positions. Puffy Mattress Back Pain
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a sound, edge to edge usable sleep surface. The dense base foam coupled with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the entire surface without having a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress has a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body roughly 3 months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is a good idea to be aware that you need to take advantage of testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a new mattress your body needs a few weeks to months to completely adapt. If for any reason you reach the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will easily work with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress has a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty shows that Puffy actually backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This provides consumers with the confidence that this can be a mattress that the company is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in every material of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to release heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.
The foundation foam is compact and supportive to make a solid base that will not let you sink into the mattress and also help keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this enables for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature whilst sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First of all, I’d say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to alleviate strain in the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam texture, so could be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Puffy Mattress Back Pain
And finally, this is one soft mattress, therefore could do wonders for anyone seeking a gentle, calming structure.
Though the memory foam is a significant selling point of the mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that does not have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for people needing buoyant support.
Final Thoughts On The Puffy Mattress Puffy Mattress Back Pain
The Puffy mattress is a great choice for everyone who want to get all the advantages of a foam mattress without overpaying. The simple design makes it a classic. This mattress is covered in a removable cover which can be unzipped and cleaned when needed. The top is soft and pliable and fits well to the mattress. It even has a very appropriate and aesthetically pleasing cloud pattern that really adds to the look. The side panels are a dark grey durable fabric that compliment the mattress as well. Unlike the conventional foam mattresses, this one is going to stay cool and will cradle you fairly well and will provide good pressure relief. Puffy is extremely sturdy and contains motion isolation that makes it appropriate for many different types of sleepers. Although, I’d like to say this mattress is an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick relaxation layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips. In addition, the mattress offers proper body support and is a great selection for all people who suffer from back pain or joint pain. Puffy Mattress Back Pain
