Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Opening Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Opening Helix Mattress

Construction Opening Helix Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Opening Helix Mattress

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Opening Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Opening Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
