Construction Mattress Too Soft Lower Back Pain
The Puffy is basically a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It features a simple design with just two foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details as listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for healing sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.
Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is super soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which means you’re very likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds like this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer in particular is very thick and ought to bring some satisfying relief to the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the night, Puffy has been able to mitigate this using a gel infusion meant to keep things nice and cool as you are sleeping.
Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this part has a quick response to pressure and can be very firm. The combination of materials was specifically selected to bring targeted relief to the spine. Mattress Too Soft Lower Back Pain
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam layer having a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any sort of transition foam means that you are very likely to interact mainly with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you want an even softer texture, you might want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which comes with an additional layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
One other important factor to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points are going to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these tension spots might be, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in some great pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and change positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I felt some pressure relief. I’m not too surprised by this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses which offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for people who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – Though the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. HereI could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which created some discomfort in this position.
Next up, let’s take a look at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress into the other.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to signify another movement you are most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are actually quite interesting motion transfer results. You’ll see a small spike in initial movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you are unlikely to be overly disturbed by your partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
While buying a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also measured how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
This tells me is that you are likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it a bit difficult to change positions. Mattress Too Soft Lower Back Pain
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a sound, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The dense base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the entire surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. So far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body about three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s good to be aware that you need to take advantage of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs a few weeks to months to completely adapt. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it isn’t a good fit, Puffy will work with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress has a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty indicates that Puffy actually backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing errors. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the confidence that this is a mattress that the business is going to stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in every material of the mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses conduction and convection to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses.
The foundation foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that will not allow you to sink into the mattress and keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All of this enables for your mattress to maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First and foremost, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a traditional memory foam texture, so can be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Mattress Too Soft Lower Back Pain
And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so can do wonders for anyone seeking a gentle, calming mattress.
Though the memory foam is a big selling point of the mattress, it does make things a bit uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who may discover that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that does not have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for those needing buoyant support.
