Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Mattress In A Box Helix
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Mattress In A Box Helix

Construction Mattress In A Box Helix
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Mattress In A Box Helix
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models sound right, you may always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Mattress In A Box Helix
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Mattress In A Box Helix
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
