Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Mattress Firm Helix
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Mattress Firm Helix

Construction Mattress Firm Helix
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Mattress Firm Helix
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Mattress Firm Helix
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
