Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Lull Vs Helix Mattress

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Lull Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
