Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Construction Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options sound quite right, you may always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Lenovo Helix 2 Sleep Mode

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
