Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Leesa Bed Vs Helix
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Leesa Bed Vs Helix

Construction Leesa Bed Vs Helix
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Leesa Bed Vs Helix
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options feel right, you can always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Leesa Bed Vs Helix
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Leesa Bed Vs Helix
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
