Construction Is Puffy Mattress Good For Back Pain
The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of ten inches. It has a straight forward design with just two foam layers: one of thick memory foam and another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was quite thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It is made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic material.
Comfort Layer – Made up of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a very slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to sink deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s typical for all-foam beds like this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. And though memory foam has a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has managed to mitigate this with a gel infusion intended to keep things nice and cool as you sleep.
Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer over it, this section has a fast response to pressure and can be quite firm. The combination of materials has been especially chosen to bring targeted relief to the spine. Is Puffy Mattress Good For Back Pain
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam coating having a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any sort of transition foam means that you are likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you’re most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you would like an even softer feel, you may want to have a look at the Puffy Lux, which has an extra layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
One other important aspect to consider when purchasing a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these tension spots could be, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You may see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Laying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this led to a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it difficult to move around and shift positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I sensed a few pressure relief. I’m not too surprised by this as side sleepers tend to go for softer mattresses which provide cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, common problem areas for those who sleep on their sides.
Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a big win for side sleepers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who usually opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. Here, I could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.
Next up, let’s take a peek at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the level of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to another.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you’re most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are actually quite intriguing motion transfer results. You’ll see a small spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, making it so you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your partner’s turning and tossing in the night.
When purchasing a new mattress}, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also measured how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink deeply through the foam layers in this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that’ll make it a bit difficult to change positions. Is Puffy Mattress Good For Back Pain
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and make a sound, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The compact base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to sense a consistent feel across the whole surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. As far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress has a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period should give you more than enough time to try this bed out. Giving you and your body about three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It’s a good idea to note that you need to make the most of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you get a new mattress your body needs several weeks to months to completely adjust. If for some reason you get to the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will easily work together with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the standard warranty for the mattress business is. This warranty shows that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal flaws or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the average wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the confidence that this can be a mattress that the company will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in each material of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam which uses convection and conduction to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that improves the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses.
The base foam is compact and supportive to create a solid base that will not let you sink into the mattress and help keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to aid in keeping cool. All of this enables for the mattress to maintain an perfect temperature whilst sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First of all, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers as the thick comfort layer works to relieve strain in the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam feel, so can be good for anyone with a penchant for the material. Is Puffy Mattress Good For Back Pain
And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so could do wonders for anybody seeking a gentle, soothing structure.
Though the memory foam is a big selling point of the mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which might be a detractor for people in need of buoyant support.
