Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Sold In Stores

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Is Helix Sold In Stores

Construction Is Helix Sold In Stores

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Is Helix Sold In Stores

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Sold In Stores

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Is Helix Sold In Stores

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
