Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Mattress Toxic

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Is Helix Mattress Toxic

Construction Is Helix Mattress Toxic

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Is Helix Mattress Toxic

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Mattress Toxic

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Is Helix Mattress Toxic

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
