Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Mattress Good
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Is Helix Mattress Good

Construction Is Helix Mattress Good
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Is Helix Mattress Good
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you can always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Mattress Good
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Is Helix Mattress Good
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
