Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

Construction Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Is Helix Good For Side Sleepers

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
