Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Image Of Helix
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Image Of Helix

Construction Image Of Helix
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Image Of Helix
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options feel right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Image Of Helix
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Image Of Helix
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
