Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. How To Open Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. How To Open Helix Mattress

Construction How To Open Helix Mattress

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). How To Open Helix Mattress

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. How To Open Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. How To Open Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
