Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. How Thick Is A Helix Mattress

Construction How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
