Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. How Long Do Helix Mattresses Last

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. How Long Do Helix Mattresses Last

Construction How Long Do Helix Mattresses Last

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). How Long Do Helix Mattresses Last

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. How Long Do Helix Mattresses Last

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. How Long Do Helix Mattresses Last

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
