Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Winkbed
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Winkbed

Construction Helix Vs Winkbed
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Vs Winkbed
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Winkbed
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Vs Winkbed
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
