Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Tempurpedic
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Tempurpedic

Construction Helix Vs Tempurpedic
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Tempurpedic
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Tempurpedic
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Vs Tempurpedic
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
