Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Construction Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Saatva Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
