Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Puffy Review
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Puffy Review

Construction Helix Vs Puffy Review
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Puffy Review
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem quite right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Puffy Review
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Puffy Review
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
