Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Nest Alexander Hybrid

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Nest Alexander Hybrid

Construction Helix Vs Nest Alexander Hybrid

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Vs Nest Alexander Hybrid

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Nest Alexander Hybrid

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Vs Nest Alexander Hybrid

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
