Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

Construction Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Leesa Sapira

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
