Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Ghostbed
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Ghostbed

Construction Helix Vs Ghostbed
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Vs Ghostbed
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Ghostbed
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Ghostbed
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
