Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

Construction Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Final Thoughts Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

If you’re searching for a mattress and aren’t quite certain what feel that you require, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz may be the key to unlocking your best sleep with little hassle. Their awesome system, which relies on expert sentiment and artificial intelligence, was created to improve their client’s sleep by offering a better match. Helix Vs Bear Hybrid

The features of this mattress were thoughtfully constructed to provide choices whether you were looking for a mattress that keeps cool all night, if you wanted one to support your curves with a thick comfort system, or both! The reinforced coil unit should provide amazing edge support and motion transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped construction.
