Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Avocado

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Vs Avocado

Construction Helix Vs Avocado

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Vs Avocado

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Avocado

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Avocado

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
