Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Amerisleep As3
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Amerisleep As3

Construction Helix Vs Amerisleep As3
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Vs Amerisleep As3
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Vs Amerisleep As3
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
Final Thoughts Helix Vs Amerisleep As3
If you are searching for a mattress and aren’t quite sure what feel that you need, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz might be the key to finding your best sleep with no hassle. The features of the Helix were thoughtfully constructed to provide choices whether you were looking for a mattress that keeps cool all night, in the event that you needed one to cradle your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The reinforced coil unit should provide great edge support and motion transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped construction.
