Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Vs Allswell

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Vs Allswell

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Vs Allswell

Construction Helix Vs Allswell

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Vs Allswell

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Vs Allswell

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Vs Allswell

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
