Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Unpacking
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Unpacking

Construction Helix Unpacking
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Unpacking
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you could always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Unpacking
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Unpacking
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
